Well, after much much time spent on Orbitz, Priceline, Cheapoair, Expedia,Travelocity, I FINALLY got my ticket to Spain. I will leave Thurs. June 12 and fly to London; change planes in Heathrow, fly to Madrid. I ended up booking through Travelocity. On the way home, I will take the train from Cáceres to Madrid, then stay overnight at a small hotel , leave the next day for home. I fly Madrid to Zurich, Zurich to Chicago. I reserved my hotel room and next week I will book my train ticket- you can't reserve more than 62 days prior, for some reason. I will get to Chicago via airport shuttle from Moline, and I booked that yesterday. I am trying not to freak out about making my connections.

In other news, we had a bomb threat at school today. Some dipshit wrote in pencil on the boys' bathroom wall "I'm going to Blow Up this scholl Thurs. 4-18". How seriously do we take that? Hats off to our administration, though. They took it seriously enough without over-reacting. I think some kid thought we'd get to go home early if there was a bomb threat. I did like the email we got asking us to please look around our rooms for any suspicious looking packages. Does any other profession regularly have the Bomb Squad come and have a look-see?

Yet another reason teachers need a serious raise in salary. Sheez.

We've not had bomb threats at TCC, but we did have some dipshit write a threat on his MySpace page - he threatened to "pick people off" on school grounds. They hired a rent-a-cop (without a gun, even) for a week, then nothing. I don't feel safe.

Yay for Spain! My mom can't go on that trip because she is still in school at that time!

As for the other item, we haven't been on lock down for a while. The last time it happened was before school started. They shut down the neighborhood for the entire day while they searched all the homes in the neighborhood for two home invasion suspects. It was nuts!

We had at least five lock downs a year at one school where I worked, mainly because people would rob a store at the strip mall across the street, then run onto campus. Then there was the time Border Patrol shot the tires out of a car they were chasing, right at the corner by my classroom. And the bomb threat that was called in before school, so when we arrived at work we stood in the sun for hours while cops searched the school with dogs.
Good times.

Yay for being (almost) fully booked! I am so jealous!

We haven't had any bomb threats (Thank God), but if we did, I'll bet our school wouldn't inform us until months later, when the kids in the know have already spread all of the gossip. On April Fool's Day, someone set off an M-80 firecracker in the school. The sulfur scent rose to the 3rd floor (the firecracker was on the first), and the hallways were very hazy. Do you thnk the school let us know that day? Nope. It was at least a week later. Imagine if it was something worse?

I believe the fact that I was going to Spain would make this last couple of months of teaching much easier. How fantastic!

Congrats on getting your trip booked, I know how anxious I get with boking domestic trips. I cannot imagine the anxiety I would feel in booking an international one.

I work in homecare. The closest we came to any kind of lockdown was last December when they had that massive shooting at Westroads Mall. Our office was locked down for about an hour and I am not even sure why they did that as it is about 3-5 miles away from the mall.

My sympathies to all teachers who have to put up with this kind of crap on a constant basis. I pray for you.

sojourner- thank you. That Westroads mall shooting was very scary. VonMaur is based here, so everyone was freaking out, as if it had anything to do with the store itself.

mister teacher- I think that was probably it! I know I personally get quite cranky when my shoes don't fit right.

adeline- I will do my best!

mrs. g- Thank you, thank you very much. (That's a nod to Mr. Presley- I especially liked him in that blue cable knit sweater....)

professora- they treat us like mushrooms- keep us in the dark and pile more shit on us.

nic- how I've missed you!

msabc mom- too bad about your mom- I guess it wasn't meant to be. We've been on lockdown because of crazy neighborhood "events", too.

mrs chili- with college shootings in the news these days, I think being at any college is a potentially scary place.

sunshine- Thanks!
